Artist’s Statement
Series: Patterns of Behavior

For me, textiles, and “domestic” textiles in particular, have strong associations with women. Both decorative and functional, they are the products and the tools of the domestic setting - traditionally a woman’s realm.

Lines, decorated by anonymous hands, and stained and worn through use, come to represent the marks of individual lives.

There is a language in the common symbols and the structure of simple pattern, that often goes unnoticed in its familiarity.

These are things that echo the quiet grace of daily life.

With this series made from used table linens and discarded handwork, I’m interested in developing an iconography that acknowledges the significance of the ordinary, the patterns of the every day, and the comfort of the familiar.
