ART

The Great Lakes Consortium (GLC) for International Training and Development is a collaborative effort of the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, Lourdes College, and WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc.

GLC www.gl-consortium.org has donated the batiks, pastels, and carvings to benefit the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women - Women in Transition: Project Succeed Program.

The value of these art objects has been researched on the following websites:
www.authenticafrica.com  and www.magellantraders.com

BATIKS
Batiks are produced in Tanzania by brushing hot liquid wax onto a piece of cotton cloth in the desired pattern. The canvas is then dipped into a dye which adheres to all of the areas that are not covered  by the wax. The wax is then removed and reapplied, repeated for each color used. This is a tedious time consuming endeavor that yields exceptional art. Animals, village scenes, landscapes, seascapes and abstracts compose much of the subject matter. The colors are natural and brilliant! These can be hung as is or framed.
